I'm a bit late to the posting game so this update is already old news, but I'm so pumped to announce that I've joined the online publication Stars and Scars as a contributing photographer! I discovered the publication after following its founder Elyse Jankowski on Instagram. I slid into Elyse's DMs to chat about photography, which turned into a mentoring session over Skype. We hit it off (meaning I was awkward but she was really nice) and she asked if I'd like to join her team. I'm so inspired by her work and her journey with concert photography, and it's crazy to me that we made this connection through social media.
In my experience, getting access to shoots concerts as a freelance photographer has been a huge challenge. I've been extremely fortunate for the opportunity to shoot a lot of shows at Wooly's, but I haven't had much luck shooting in other cities with different promoters. Getting to shoot as part of this publication technically makes me part of the press, which makes getting a photo pass way less stressful. I feel extremely blessed to be part of this awesome team that Elyse has built. The Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys set was my first assignment for the publication, and I can't wait to shoot more! The bands co-headlined at the Armory in Minneapolis on a Friday at the beginning of June. The venue is huge and the sound is fantastic. Make sure to catch a show at the Armory if you get the chance, and to check out Stars and Scars!
