The band Gloom Balloon was having an album release show at Vaudeville Mews on Friday, and Des Moines Cityview gave me the chance to shoot it.
Gloom Balloon are a beloved local band known for their wild theatrics and interesting use of visuals and props. I've been to a lot of concerts in my day, and I have never seen a band like them. It was colorful, strange and confusing at times (at one point they brought out one of those giant parachutes from gym class when we were little), but the crowd loved every minute of it. These guys are so hilarious and fun, and really care about giving a unique performance.
Local artist Dustin Smith of the Maytags opened, followed by Foxholes.
